Frequency of Genetic Polymorphism of the Gene Encoding 16kDa Clara Cell Secretory Protein (CC16) in Shiraz, Iran

چکیده
The Clara cell protein (CC16) is a small and readily diffusible protein of 16 kDa secreted by bronchiolar Clara cells in the distal airspaces. Mutation detection methods identified an adenine to guanine substitution in the CC16 gene at position 38 (A38G) downstream from the transcription initiation site within the non-coding region of exon 1. In the present study, the genetic polymorphism of CC16 was detected by PCR-based method in 175 normal individuals from Shiraz population, Fars province (south of Iran). Initially the subjects were divided into two sex groups. Considering that there was no statistically significant differences between males and females (χ = 5.52; df = 2; P<0.05) the sex groups were pooled. The frequencies of 38A and 38G alleles were 0.24 and 0.76 percent, respectively. The study population was at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (χ = 2.61; df = 1; P<0.05). The present results indicated that this polymorphism might have a geographic distribution.

Genetic polymorphism of Clara cell secretory protein 16KDa (CC16) and susceptibility to asthma, a meta-analysis
Clara cell secretory protein 16KDa (CC16) is the major secretory protein of the Clara cells. The gene encoding CC16 has been implicated as potential susceptibility gene for asthma. Published studies between genetic polymorphism of CC16 at position 38 and asthma risk are controversial. Most of these studies are based on small sample size. To clarify the role of the A38G CC16 polymorphism on the ...
متن کاملDistribution of ACE insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism in Iranian populations
Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE; OMIM: 106180) has an important role in the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II and degradation of bradykinin. Genetic polymorphism I/D (rs4646994) in the gene encoding ACE has been well defined. To get more insight into the genetic structure of Iranian populations, the distribution of the ACE I/D polymorphism among Iranians was compared with each ot...

Background: Brucella is a gram-negative bacterium, causing acute and chronic infection in humans and animals. Cell-mediated immunity is the main protective immune response against Brucella spp. Activation of macrophages by IFN-γ and generation of reactive oxygen intermediates and nitric oxide are the main immunologic mechanisms responsible for control of Brucella infection. Objective: To invest...
متن کاملClara cell specific protein (CC16) expression after acute lung inflammation induced by intratracheal lipopolysaccharide administration.
Clara cell secretory protein (CC16, CC10, or CCSP), the major secretory protein of the Clara cell, presents several biologic properties, suggesting that it may play a protective role against intrapulmonary inflammatory processes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes of CC16 concentrations in the lung, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and serum of rats with acute lung ...
متن کاملSputum and BAL Clara cell secretory protein and surfactant protein D levels in asthma.
Clara cell secretory protein (CC16) is associated with Th2 modulation. Surfactant protein D (SPD) plays an important role in surfactant homeostasis and eosinophil chemotaxis. We measured CC16 and SPD in sputum supernatants of 84 asthmatic patients and 12 healthy controls. In 22 asthmatics, we additionally measured CC16 and SPD levels in BAL and assessed smooth muscle area (SMA), reticular basem...
